Special People

"The special people in this world are the most precious and the most appreciated people of all.
No matter what happens, they always understand.
They go a million miles out of their way.
They hold your hand.
They bring you smiles, when a smile is exactly what you need.
They listen, and they hear what is said in the spaces between the words.
They care, and they let you know you're in their prayers."
~Unknown Native American

Since I'm not familiar with the intricacies of the brain, is it correct to say that Millie is pretty much healed from the aneurysm and "just" needs to awaken from her coma? Are the doctors keeping her in the coma so that her brain can fully heal?

How close will she be once she gets back to Alaska?

All I ever hear is... each person is on their own time schedule, every person is different. No one is ever the same in "emerging" from their head traumas.
I've also been told that Millie didn't have any damage. She should be awake. I've also heard that the longer a person "sleeps" the more likely they will have a lot to recover from when they do wake up.
Everything is a mystery concerning Millie right now. The only certain and unchanging knowledge we have about her condition is that God has her in His hand and He knows what is her future.
Millie is not on any drugs of any kind. She is not being kept asleep. She does not even have to use oxygen anymore. She just keeps sleeping.
I have read so much about emerging, about how physicians are working to encourage one in a coma to wake up, but to tell you the truth...your guess about how close she is to consciousness is as good as anyone elses.

I just keep holding on to the hope that today she will wake up.

That's pretty sobering. In the meantime, life goes on even though it doesn't feel right that it does. I can't imagine waking up and finding out that I've "lost" 3 months of my life. Poof, it went by while your eyes were shut.

Will she be close enough for you to visit regularly?

She will be in Anchorage. My husband goes to Anchorage every day for work, so I plan to go in on some of those days to spend the his work hours with her then go home with him at the end of the day. Anchorage is sixty miles away.
